Solitaire Engagement Rings: A Promise of Forever

Solitaire engagement rings are a simple beauty, and yet they are the most common representation of engagement rings in the world. There is a reason for that. Not only are they one of the most traditional settings in the world, but a solitaire does not detract the eye with elaborate settings or multiple diamonds or gems. It is just the beauty of the stone on her finger, and such simplicity speaks volumes.

Solitaire engagement rings are not, though, just a band and a diamond. They can be, but they can be more elaborate as well. There are several options that you might not think about when considering a solitaire. Many have diamond embedded bands, or intricate carvings or designs. Some have initials engraved on the inside of the band. The metal used can also customize your ring, as there are several different types to choose from. Rose, yellow, or white gold, palladium, or platinum are all very popular choices.

Solitaire rings do not necessarily even have to have a diamond at all. Other precious gems, like sapphires, rubies, emeralds, or pearls are also very popular as the centre stone. Many of these coloured gems are actually more rare than diamonds, but are less expensive because the demand for them is not as great. Using a coloured stone can also be very symbolic, if it is a birthstone or representative of the month you proposed or the month you met. These colours can give your ring even more of a sentimental value.

Another way to customize a solitaire ring is by the shape of the diamond. Round brilliant cuts are the most popular, but there are several different choices as well. Emerald cut is the most sought after of the square shapes, and a pear cut can elongate the finger and create a very elegant look.

Because the diamond is the sole focal point of the ring, a higher quality diamond with fewer flaws and inclusions and a fair amount of fire and brilliance will make quite a difference in the overall beauty of the ring. Solitaire engagement rings are symbolic of engagement rings in general, but they also represent a lifetime commitment of love and loyalty. One small ring can promise forever.
