Cluster Engagement Rings: Uniquely yours

When you are looking for a very unique, one-of-a-kind engagement ring, and you are also trying to stay within a budget, it may seem like your options are very limited. That, thankfully, is not true. Cluster engagement rings typically cost much less than a solitaire diamond of the same apparent size. And because of the many different creations that can be made with cluster rings, you are almost guaranteed to get a ring that is one-of-a-kind.

Why are cluster engagement rings less expensive than solitaire rings? The answer is completely due to rarity. Diamonds increase in price as they increase in size. However, once they have passed the one-carat, their price jumps substantially, and continue to jump as the carat increases. This is because larger diamonds are very rare. There are plenty of small diamonds in the world, but finding the larger diamonds is much less common, and so they cost quite a bit more.

The cost transfers to a less-expensive cluster engagement ring because it is made up of smaller diamonds, which together cost much less than a solitaire diamond that appears to be as large as the cluster of diamonds together. So not only are you getting a very unusual engagement ring, but you are getting it for less than you would have paid for a solitaire.

Celebrities, always looking for something as exclusive as they themselves are, also love cluster rings. Singer Una Healy recently got engaged to her rugby playing boyfriend, Ben Foden, who gave her a Cartier cluster ring on a simple band.

Typically, when you think of cluster rings, you think lots of small, round brilliant diamonds, with one in the center and the rest surrounding it. That is one of the most popular style of cluster rings, but the wonderful thing about a cluster is that the setting and design possibilities are practically endless. The diamonds do not all have to be the same size or the same shape. They can be different coloured gems, or a mixture of all these things. The settings can be elaborate or simple. Flowers, hearts, and other intricate creations are all possible with a cluster engagement ring.
